Citroen C3 Aircross SUV Debuted With 5 and 7-Seat Options

Citroen C3 Aircross || Citroen has unveiled the new C3 Aircross SUV for the Indian market. The 4.3-meter-long SUV will mark Citroën’s entry into the highly competitive compact SUV segment with the model’s USP as buyers will have the option of a third row of seats.

Starting with the looks, the Aircross gets a split headlamp design similar to the smaller C3 hatchback, although the SUV notably gets a more muscular look. The high-set LED daytime running lamps are joined by twin strips of chrome that form the twin-chevron Citroën logo at the centre. The air-vents get a layered look with the upper vent located just below the chrome trim and the number plate is separated from the lower unit by a body-coloured plastic casing. The bumper also gets a faux skid plate element to add to the SUV look.

Down the side, the C3 Aircross shares some elements with the larger C5 – such as a straight design and the same window line up to the C-pillar. The SUV look includes a striking cut and crease along the shoulder line above the wheel arches with cladding around the wheel arches.

At the back, square-out wrap-around tail lamps are connected through a piece of black trim. Cladding and faux skid plate element have been used remarkably in the rear bumper, which helps to some extent in enhancing the tough SUV look. There are also many cuts and creases in the tailgate, including the lower part around the tail lamp and near the base. Meanwhile, the rear windscreen is wrapped around the vehicle with an apparent extension in the C-pillar.

In terms of size, the C 3 Aircross sits at 4.3 meters in length, 1,654 mm in height, 1,796 mm in width and a 2,671 mm wheelbase – the longest in the segment. Compared to the compact SUV segment, the C3 Aircross is similar in size to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara / Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider. The SUV also gets a ground clearance of 200 mm.

In the 5-seater there is a boot space of 441 liters with the rear seats, while in the 5 + 2-seater there is up to 511 liters of storage with the second row. Citroën says that this is because the seats are set forward in the 5 + 2 model to accommodate the third row. In the 5 + 2-seater, the middle row seat is divided and folded in a 70:30 split to provide access to the third row.

The C3 Aircross will initially be available with only a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine, although the company hasn’t confirmed the power output yet. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be standard with this engine and there is no word yet on the option of an automatic gearbox.
