History Of Automobile – The Beginning of the Era
The era of automobiles, its invention and creation first began in Germany. In 1769 the first self-propelled road vehicles were powered by steam engines built by Joseph Cugnot.
World’s first three-wheeled automobile with an otto cycle petrol engine (internal-combustion engine) was built by Karl Benz of Germany in 1885 and was granted patent on 29th January 1886. At the same time, another team from Germany, viz., Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach built and patented the first motorcycle.
Soon thereafter, Benz also invented an accelerator for speed regulation, battery ignition system, spark plug, clutch, gear shift and the radiator for cooling of the engine. With these improvements, he began production of the world’s first automobile in 1888.
However, it was in the year 1893 that the first four-wheeled automobile was introduced by him in the History Of Automobile. This was fitted with a four-stroke engine of his own design.
Almost concurrently, Daimler and Maybach also produced about thirty vehicles during 1890 to 1895 at the Daimler works and the Hotel Hermann. Daimler died in 1900 but his production continued.
In the year 1927, the companies of Benz and Daimler united under the name of Daimler-Benz with a commitment to keep that name till the year 2000. Whereas Benz produced only 25 vehicles and Daimler-Maybach made almost 30 vehicles in the first five years of their production,
